Lisbon currently has 21 municipal vegetable gardens and is preparing to open six more in the coming years. The earliest parks were opened in 2011 in Campolide and Quinta da Granja as part of a strategy for the promotion and development of urban agriculture that is reflected today in more than 800 cultivation plots in an area of around 9.5 ha.
They are places of creativity, resilience and mutual assistance, but also of a very rich plant heritage that is preserved by the guardians of these places: the gardeners of Lisbon.
This talk with Rita Folgosa from the Working Group for the Promotion and Development of Urban Agriculture in the City of Lisbon will allow us to learn more about the Municipal Horticultural Parks project.
