Sculpture

The Museum of Lisbon displays sculptures of exceptional quality, including a Toni Malau (a devotional representation of St Anthony, from the African Kingdom of Kongo, where the saint was revered), and Nossa Senhora das Mercês [Our Lady of Mercy], an Italian-made piece from the palace of the Marquis of Pombal). The museum is also home to the bequest of the sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida, mostly comprising plasterwork pieces by his own hand, and other important works by Joaquim Machado de Castro, Célestin Calmels, Simões de Almeida, and other artists.
