The Museum of Lisbon – Saint Anthony is publishing the Portuguese translation of the book The Kongolese Saint Anthony – Dona Beatriz Kimpa Vita and The Antonian Movement, 1684-1706, by John Thornton, professor of the History of Africa and the African Diaspora at Boston University, Massachusetts (USA) since 2003.

The book will be presented by Alberto Oliveira Pinto, a Portuguese-Angolan writer and historian, specialist in African history and researcher at the University of Lisbon's History Centre (CH_UL).

This work by the American researcher reflects on religious syncretism and the subversive use of devotion to Saint Anthony in the former Kingdom of Congo, later taken by slaves to Brazil.

First published in English by Cambridge University Press, the book has now been published in Portuguese by the Saint Anthont Study and Research Centre of the Museum of Lisbon – Saint Anthony.
